Yesterday, on 1st February, we were joined online by over 70 people and organisations to launch our new five year strategy — and to finally reveal our new name, People’s Economy!

We loved celebrating our plans for the future with so many of you, and hearing your reflections about the road ahead. If you couldn’t make the online launch, you can view our recording of the event here.

A full summary of our new strategy is here. If you have any questions that you can’t find the answers for, or you’d like to partner with us in this work, you can email us at hello@ecnmy.org.

What does a ‘people’s economy’ mean to you?

We began our strategy launch by asking attendees what a ‘people’s economy’ means to them, and received a brilliant range of answers.

It’s a question that we’ve been engaging with closely during the past year as we’ve been putting together the different components of our strategy.

Jonah and Fatima talked through our resulting vision, and how we plan to make it happen through expanding our community education on the economy and working in solidarity with people facing economic injustice to create a stronger movement for justice and change.

We also revealed that we’re going to be transitioning to a new name and branding, to more closely align with our direction and values. We go into more detail about the new name and what our strategy will involve in this blog post.

Discussing a vision for the next five years: perspectives from Franklyn, Simin and Mona

We were delighted to be joined by three friends of Economy in a discussion about the work ahead of us.

Franklyn Addo is a youth worker, community activist and writer who worked with us to deliver a youth justice focused project in Newham.

Simin Wadiwala is a member of our Community Ambassador Board, and has also co-produced with us a video about her involvement in the ‘Radical Roots’ housing cooperative.

Mona Bani is the managing director at Revoke, who partnered with us on projects in the past and made connections to recruit for our Community Ambassador Board.

Thanks to Franklyn, Simin and Mona for offering their time and insightful reflections. Be sure to check out their contributions in our recording of the launch event.

Picturing the future

We’re grateful to Mandy Johnson of Sketchnotes UK for taking visual notes of the launch and creating an additional space for us to collectively explore our hopes and ideas.

Here’s what she drew based on our discussions:
